How Praise can Change your Life

Growing up I was taught to praise God in Sunday School, church, and later in college. However, the practice was lost on me. I understood that God deserved to praised for all that He has done yet I considered a practice that I rarely did.

Psalm 150:6, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!”

However, recently I am learning to perceive praise in a different light. Praise does not make God “like” us any more, but it does impact our lives by doing it. How does praise do this? It lifts my perspective and reminds me of the goodness of God. Raymond Holliwell says that “faith is wisdom and understanding, praise is the application that understanding.” I thought that was an interesting way to put it that I had never considered.

While I have written mostly about praising God, but it also works in relationships. I decided to do a social experiment where I would give compliments to people around me. Now I all the compliments I gave were well deserved, I just shared what was on my mind rather than never saying anything at all. I was shocked at the reaction that people had when I mentioned something nice about them.

Everyone’s favorite subject to talk about is them. Therefore, if I wanted to talk to a new person or engage someone in conversation then I gave them a compliment (or praise). My relationships began to transform and I found my perspective in life was changing. I was a happier person and even improved my marriage. All I did was share what I had been thinking all along and it changed everything.

Praise can change many aspects of our lives. I encourage you today to add praising to your life.

God Bless,
